Best of 2024: The Flamingo Awards

In this, our Best special section which we call The Flamingos, we highlight the wackiest and the most wondrous, the sublime and the ridiculous — the things that add up to make South Florida among the most interesting places to survive and thrive.

BEST VENDING MACHINE

A curiously looking vending machine has been dispensing limited-edition original works of art, including paintings, prints, textiles and jewelry, in downtown West Palm Beach since February. More than 25 local artists contributed the bitesize works and handmade items, such as crocheted peep-chains and purses, currently for sale for $50 and under. The brainchild of local entrepreneur Meghan McKenna, this innovative concept aims to make art accessible to everyone. Since first debuting at Clematis at Night, the bright blue repurposed snack machine (the first of its kind in South Florida) has moved to the Garden District Taproom courtyard. It will continue to pop up in public spaces throughout the year. Flamango Vending accepts cards, Apple Pay, bills, and coins and operates like any other vending machine, except it dispatches 2-inch canvasses. Be sure to save that change. @flamangovending

Flamango Vending was made possible thanks to the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority’s 2024 Mini Placemaking Grant
